The Sri Lanka Institute of Local Governance (SLILG) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka in a remarkable development for capacity building and knowledge enhancement. The collaboration aims to conduct six certificate courses focused on various aspects of local governance. The signing ceremony, held at Uva Wellassa University, saw the Director/CEO of SLILG, Dr Suratissa Dissanayake, signing the MoU on behalf of SLILG. At the same time, Senior Professor Jayantha Lal Rathnasekara, Vice Chancellor of the university, represented Uva Wellassa University.
The certificate courses will cover a range of essential subjects, addressing key areas of concern and interest in local governance. The planned courses include:
1. Certificate Course in Environmental Protection and Wastewater Management
2. Certificate Course in e -Local Governance
3. Certificate Course in Project Management
4. Certificate Course in Library Management
5. Certificate Course in Research Methodology
6. Certificate Course in Wastewater Management and Rainwater Harvesting
These courses have been carefully designed to equip participants with the practical skills and knowledge necessary for effective governance and sustainable development in their respective fields. By conducting these courses jointly, SLILG and Uva Wellassa University aim to provide comprehensive and specialised training opportunities for professionals and aspiring individuals in the Uva Province.
Mr M. F. Hibathul Careem, the Registrar of Uva Wellassa University, Nisantha Naula Deputy Registrar, attended the signing ceremony, along with Mr Jagath Dissanayake, program officer of SLILG and other distinguished guests. The event served as a platform for constructive discussions on the importance of such collaborative efforts in advancing local governance practices and fostering environmental sustainability.
The certificate courses are scheduled to commence soon at Uva Wellassa University. Professionals, practitioners, and individuals interested in expanding their knowledge and expertise in local governance are encouraged to register for these courses.
