The first program on Introduction to Local Government was successfully conducted at the auditorium of SLILG from 20 January to 22 January 2022. Lectures of the program were facilitated by Dr Surathissa Dissanayake, Dr Premasiri Gamage, Dr Shantha Gamlath, Ms Gayani Premathilaka, Mr W.P Witharana and Ms Shehani Shanika. Local Government Law, Income Generation, Project Management and Research Methodology were covered in this program. This program commences as the concept of Director/CEO to provide basic knowledge to those who are new to the Local Government sector.
Local development, and by extension community development, is one of the primary responsibilities of local government. Training programs on Local Government aim to build the capacity of the elected members, local government officials and those wishing to join the local government sector. The programme provides foundational learning in the functional areas of local government. This programme also empowers students with a high level of professional expertise and a broad range of managerial skills in the local government sector.
This short-term training program ensures that students gain knowledge, skills and competencies in local government management principles and practices, enabling them to make a difference in delivering services to local communities.
